Musa Nyatama Shines at the Orlando Pirates Awards
Musa Nyatama shone at the Orlando Pirates awards which were held in Rivonia on Thursday night. The 30-year-old scooped the Player of the Season award and the Player’s Player of the Season award. His move from Bloemfontein Celtics has proven worthwhile after a dazzling season with the Soweto giants.
His debut season with the Buccaneers was very astounding. He made 30 appearances in all competitions. His performance helped Orlando Pirates to pull through a bad spell during the season to finish 2nd.
Musa Nyatama’s performance was so good that 82 per cent of his fellow footballers voted for the midfielder in Player’s Player awards. Musa also captured the hearts of fans. The fans also voted for him to get the Fans’ Player of the Season award.
His wonderful performance on the pitch and his attitude off the pitch made him become the fan’s most loved players in Soweto.
Award Winners of the Night
Zambian striker Augustine Mulenga won the award for goal of the season. His thunderbolt strike against Celtics on April 4 claimed the award for him.
Orlando Pirates has been known for appreciating young talent at the club. The 16-year-old Augustine Mahlonoko won the Shield Development Player of Season. Happy Jele was also honoured with the Chairman Award. Happy Jele won a back to back treble with the club in 2010-2011, 2011-2012 respectively.
The man who thwarted lethal shots between poles, Wayne Sandilands produced top-tier saves to help his team come 2nd. Wayne scooped the golden glove award on the night for the role he played in the rise of the Pirates.
