Kaizer Chiefs and Panathinaikos Compete for Former Chelsea Boss
After the public resignation of Steve Kompela, Kaizer Chiefs are in search for a new boss to take charge of one of the biggest teams in South African football. The former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is reportedly the leading candidate to take over the famous Soweto side.
Chiefs are facing a stiff competition from the Greek team, Panathinaikos for Grant’s signature. Grant is poised to be weighing his options between the two clubs. The former Chelsea boss is with the Northeast End side in the Indian Super League as a technical advisor and a move to South African Football League is the one he might consider
The 62-year-old has some successes on the African continent. He was once coach of the Ghana national team. He led the Black Stars of Ghana to the 2017 African Cup of Nation semi-finals. Grant resigned after his side failed to make it to the finals.
Other Candidates for Chief’s Head Gaffer Position
The Soweto giants are also looking elsewhere for a new coach. They are reportedly also interested in Botswana, Township Rollers head coach Nikola Kavazovic. Luc Eymael, the man who was the architect to their fall during the Nedbank Cup is also a top contender for the job.
Former Supersport United boss Eric Tinkler is also a favourite to become Chief’s boss despite leading SuperSport United into “unusual” territory, the relegation zone. Patrice Carteron the man who conquered the African continent with TP Mazembe and led the Mali national team to a third place at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations has also been shortlisted.
